Okta Enhances Identity Governance for AI Agents with New Integrations

More than 90% of organizations are now incorporating AI agents into their operations, a figure underscored by recent research from Okta. As companies increasingly deploy these agents, Okta has made enhancements to its identity platform aimed at improving lifecycle management and access controls in distributed environments.

The company's latest offerings extend support for non-Okta identity providers, including integrations with Amazon Web Services’ Amazon Bedrock AgentCore. This expansion will allow for better governance and auditing of agent access, enabling organizations to deactivate agents that exhibit unexpected behavior. Okta asserts that this capability creates a vendor-neutral environment that secures every aspect of an agent's lifecycle.

Ely Kahn, Okta’s chief product officer, highlighted the importance of such a platform, stating, “With AI agents being built on different platforms and being deployed across distributed environments, the agentic enterprise doesn’t fit into a single-vendor ecosystem. Agents is the neutral platform built to secure the full agent lifecycle, from initial discovery and onboarding to ongoing protection and governance.”

These developments carry significant implications, as Gartner forecasts that by 2028, a typical global Fortune 500 enterprise will utilize over 150,000 AI agents. This rapid growth demands stable identity management solutions to ensure security and compliance throughout the agent lifecycle.

With the new integration of Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, organizations can efficiently manage agent ownership and lifecycle processes. Key features include monitoring through OAuth consent grant, direct agent import into Okta via the Okta Integration Network, and a centralized registry linking each agent to a designated human owner alongside established governance policies.

Companies can define and enforce access permissions for these agents, specifying authentication methods and scopes. This approach ensures thorough resource management, integrating user access requests and certifications throughout the agent lifecycle. The platform also supports quick incident response through single-action agent deactivation and detailed logging of tool calls and authorization decisions.

Okta's platform already connects with notable ecosystems like Salesforce’s Agentforce and ServiceNow AI Platform, with plans to expand to other platforms such as Google Vertex AI, Workday, and DataRobot soon. Last year, Okta signalled its commitment to enhancing capabilities related to agentic AI, with additional features expected to be introduced during the fiscal year ending in 2027.

As AI agents become more prevalent in enterprise workflows, the demand for comprehensive identity management solutions that can adapt to various platforms and environments grows. Okta’s strategic initiatives underscore its aim to position itself as a leader in the evolving field of AI-driven identity governance.
