As organizations increasingly integrate AI agents into their operations, the need for stable governance structures has become paramount. SailPoint's recent launch of Agentic Fabric aims to tackle this challenge by providing enterprises with a platform that ensures visibility and control over AI agents and other non-human identities accessing critical systems. This development arrives as companies accelerate AI adoption across cloud environments while managing the complexities of accountability and access.

The Agentic Fabric platform complements SailPoint’s existing Identity Security Cloud, which traditionally manages human identities. This creates a comprehensive control plane for all identity types. This dual approach is particularly relevant for security, technology, and procurement leaders who need clear ownership and enforceable guidelines for these autonomous agents. Procurement teams, already using AI agents to automate workflows and process sensitive contract data, stand to gain significantly from this enhanced governance structure.

Without a clear framework governing agent capabilities and data access, organizations expose themselves to compliance risks. The potential for unregulated agent activity in supply chains highlights the urgency of establishing explicit and auditable permissions. Matt Mills, President of SailPoint, noted, “AI agents are transforming how work gets done, but they are also introducing a new class of identity risk that most organizations are not prepared for.” Accountability is crucial; organizations must ensure their AI agents are linked to a human owner to effectively mitigate risks.

Bridging the Identity Governance Gap

Traditional identity security frameworks primarily focused on human users, leaving a significant gap in managing autonomous software. AI agents operate at machine speed and can interact across multiple systems, often without a designated business owner. SailPoint sees this disconnect as a critical issue that many organizations are ill-equipped to handle. As the number of agents increases, mapping access and understanding the rationale behind it becomes more complex.

Chandra Gnanasambandam, EVP of Product and CTO at SailPoint, highlighted the significance of the new platform, stating, “With Agentic Fabric, SailPoint is moving aggressively to secure one of the biggest emerging risks in enterprise AI: the rapid growth of AI agents and other non-human identities.” The aim is to create a cohesive identity governance model that encompasses human, machine, and AI identities, ensuring all are managed under a unified framework.

Core Capabilities: Discovery, Governance, and Protection

Agentic Fabric centers on three core capabilities: discovery, governance, and protection. The discovery feature maps AI agents, machine identities, and applications, constructing an identity graph that connects these agents to the data and systems they access. This capability is crucial for identifying unregistered tools and shadow AI, which can pose significant security risks.

Governance within the platform ensures that every agent is linked to a human owner, complete with lifecycle controls and policy-based access. For procurement functions, this means aligning permissions with approved duties, thereby enforcing accountability and compliance. Protection capabilities enhance security by implementing least-privilege access, real-time authorizations, threat detection, and automated responses. This reduces the likelihood of agents exceeding their access rights.

Commercial Packages and Future Availability

SailPoint is launching two commercial packages alongside Agentic Fabric. The first, Agentic Business, provides foundational governance with least-privilege access across all identity types. The second, Agentic Business Plus, introduces zero-standing privilege with just-in-time access, designed for more complex or high-risk environments. To promote adoption, a free Discovery Tool trial is currently available for organizations to map shadow AI and unregistered applications within their infrastructure. This trial is accessible to both new customers and existing users of SailPoint's IdentityIQ and Identity Security Cloud.

The full suite of Agentic Fabric and its associated packages is expected to be generally available by summer 2026, marking a significant advance in AI governance. As organizations address the challenges of integrating autonomous agents, the demand for effective governance solutions will only increase.
