Tenable Holdings Inc. has taken a significant step forward in enhancing its Hexa AI capabilities by introducing features aimed at improving vulnerability management efficiency. The company announced the rollout of multistep reasoning and Model Context Protocol (MCP) support during its Exposure 2026 conference in Boston. This update addresses the growing challenges organizations face in keeping pace with rapid vulnerability discovery cycles.

As artificial intelligence models evolve, they are identifying vulnerabilities faster than traditional remediation methods can handle. Tenable points out that existing manual processes for addressing these vulnerabilities are inadequate, often leaving organizations exposed for long periods. The new features of Hexa AI aim to reduce the time between vulnerability discovery and remediation, thereby bolstering overall security.

Hexa AI acts as an orchestration layer above the Tenable Exposure Data Fabric, a repository that contains contextualized exposure data. This integration enables customers to connect existing security and IT tools, facilitating the use of either Tenable’s prebuilt agents or custom-built solutions. The goal is to automate workflows from vulnerability discovery to remediation, minimizing the need for security personnel to manually integrate context.

A key feature is the advanced multistep reasoning capability, which allows Hexa AI to execute complex workflows across multiple exposure surfaces with a single command. Automated remediation workflows have been introduced to create and route tickets, generate custom policies, and prepare audit-ready reports. Another important capability is the end-to-end exposure path insights, enabling users to query environments based on identity attributes and uncover exposure paths often missed by traditional asset inventories.

The introduction of MCP support, an open standard developed by Anthropic PBC, is pivotal to this update. It enables users to create custom agents and workflows that integrate with Hexa AI without extensive bespoke coding. Eric Doerr, Tenable’s Chief Product Officer, highlighted the need for AI agents to have the right structures to operate safely in enterprise environments. He stated, “AI agents operating without the right guardrails and harness can be unpredictable, brittle, or unsafe in real-world enterprise environments. This is where Tenable Hexa AI shines. It doesn’t just suggest the next step; it orchestrates the entire workflow to neutralize risk before it can be exploited.”

To build trust in autonomous AI tools, Tenable has designed Hexa AI to function within an agentic harness, providing security teams with continuous visibility and control over agent activities. This approach aims to address the trust issues that have historically hindered the adoption of AI technology in enterprise settings.

Hexa AI is now available to Tenable One Foundation and Tenable One Advanced customers, following the company’s flex pricing model. As organizations continue to navigate the complexities of cybersecurity, the enhancements to Hexa AI demonstrate Tenable's commitment to delivering innovative solutions that align with the evolving demands of threat management.
