In a major development for artificial intelligence in enterprises, Dust has secured $40 million in a Series B funding round, bringing its total funding to over $60 million. The San Francisco-based startup seeks to transform the use of AI from individual applications to a collaborative, team-focused model. This funding round was led by Abstract and Sequoia, with participation from prominent firms like Snowflake and Datadog.
Dust's CEO, Gabriel Hubert, co-founded the company in 2023 with Stanislas Polu. He argues that traditional approaches, where external consultants or IT departments dictate AI deployment, fail to unlock AI’s full potential. "While there is widespread recognition of the potential of agentic AI, many companies are bringing in third parties to develop and implement their agents for their teams," Hubert stated. Instead, Dust empowers teams to leverage their own expertise in creating AI agents tailored to their specific workflows and systems.
The Shift from Individual to Collaborative AI
At the heart of Dust's philosophy is the belief that work is inherently collaborative and complex. Hubert contends, "The nature of work is too complicated for isolated single agents to be consequential." Most tasks within organizations involve multiple team members and require adaptability and collaboration on non-repetitive projects. Thus, focusing solely on individual agents can yield disappointing results.

Dust’s platform, characterized as “multi-player AI,” supports a shared workspace where teams can collaboratively design, deploy, and manage AI agents. This setup allows agents to function effectively within the broader context of team interactions, boosting productivity and effectiveness. The platform integrates with existing software and data sources while ensuring privacy and security, enabling teams to maximize the benefits of their AI implementations.
Adoption and Customer Success
Since its inception, Dust has garnered interest from over 3,000 organizations, which have collectively deployed more than 300,000 AI agents through its platform. This swift adoption highlights a growing recognition among enterprises of the demand for accessible and user-friendly AI solutions. Damien Laborie, director of data and AI strategy at Syxperiane, emphasized the significance of Dust's approach: “Without writing code, without solving existential questions about data architecture and agent orchestration, it's increasingly ready to use.” He noted that when managers grasp the potential of AI to drive results, they become strong advocates for its adoption.
Investor Confidence in Dust
Investor enthusiasm for Dust's approach is palpable. Konstantine Buhler of Sequoia described the company’s platform as reflective of contemporary business practices, stating, "We’re in the early innings of a massive shift in how organizations use AI." He added that traditional enterprise AI often relies on a single-player model, while Dust is pioneering a system where agents and humans share context and collaborate across the organization. With zero churn and 70% weekly active usage, Buhler claims that Dust’s model is no longer experimental but a new standard for enterprise operations.
As Dust advances its platform, the implications for enterprise AI are significant. The shift towards collaborative agent design not only boosts productivity but also enables more tailored and efficient responses to complex business challenges. As more organizations recognize the advantages of this approach, Dust is poised to lead the way in redefining how AI is integrated into daily business practices.
