AirTrunk has unveiled an ambitious plan to inject more than $30 billion into the Indian market by 2030, positioning the country as a key player in the growing AI and cloud infrastructure sector. This commitment comes as demand for advanced digital capabilities surges across the Asia Pacific region.

The investment is backed by major financial partners, including Blackstone and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, making it one of the largest digital infrastructure initiatives currently underway in India. AirTrunk plans to develop over 5GW of data centre capacity, which is vital for supporting the next generation of cloud services and AI technologies.

This announcement follows AirTrunk's recent entry into the Indian market with its acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra earlier this year. This strategic move provided AirTrunk with an initial development pipeline of 600MW across major cities like Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad, setting the stage for its expansive growth plans.

Robin Khuda, founder and CEO of AirTrunk, expressed optimism about the Indian market after discussions with government representatives during a recent engagement program. He stated, “Capital is mobile, and India is creating the conditions for it to thrive.” Khuda's remarks highlight a growing confidence in India's potential as an attractive destination for foreign investment. He added, “We were bullish on India before entering the market through Lumina. Following our discussions with government leaders this week, we’re looking to double down on that commitment.”

In meetings with federal and state officials in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, Khuda discussed key issues such as power access, renewable energy, and talent development. These conversations emphasized the need for streamlined approvals and improved coordination between state and federal governments to facilitate strategic infrastructure projects.

AirTrunk's investment strategy is also supported by the Indian government’s broader policy framework, which includes the IndiaAI Mission, which has received over $1.2 billion in funding, and the India Semiconductor Mission, allocated approximately $9 billion. These initiatives demonstrate a strong governmental commitment to developing digital and AI capabilities at scale, essential for attracting global investments.

The company estimates that its planned investment in 5GW of data centre capacity will create tens of thousands of local jobs in areas such as development, construction, and operations. The emphasis on supply chain localization is expected to further boost the local economy.

As global adoption of AI accelerates, the race to establish stable digital infrastructure intensifies. AirTrunk contends that countries with the necessary digital backbone will be better positioned to attract high-value investments and drive innovation. With its proactive policies and investment commitments, India is increasingly poised to compete for a share of this lucrative opportunity.

Looking forward, AirTrunk’s $30 billion initiative not only signifies a substantial financial commitment but also marks a pivotal moment for India’s AI and cloud sectors. As the country prepares to meet the demands of an evolving digital landscape, the impact of such investments could resonate throughout the economy for years to come.
