Megaport Partners with VAST Data to Build New AI Infrastructure

In a significant move to bolster its AI capabilities, Megaport has chosen VAST Data's AI Operating System as the foundational data layer for its expanding global network. This partnership follows Megaport's recent acquisition of Latitude.sh, enabling the Australian network-as-a-service provider to accelerate its entry into AI services.

The agreement allows VAST to deliver enterprise data services throughout Megaport's extensive network and Latitude's bare-metal and GPU infrastructure. Together, they plan to create a platform designed for deploying AI workloads across distributed, hybrid, and multicloud environments.

Michael van Rooyen, Megaport's executive vice president of global innovation, highlighted a shift in how enterprises view technology infrastructure. "Enterprises are no longer thinking about networking, compute and data as separate decisions," he stated. This new infrastructure strategy reflects a rising demand for solutions that are automated, globally accessible, and adaptable to the evolving needs of AI.

Integrating VAST's data platform into Megaport's operations means customers will benefit from a unified approach to managing data across various environments, including on-premises systems, public clouds, edge locations, and third-party compute resources. This approach is vital as businesses increasingly rely on AI technologies to drive their operations.

Megaport’s transformation from a connectivity provider to a comprehensive AI infrastructure platform is evident in its recent initiatives. Last year, the company enhanced its service portfolio with the acquisition of Latitude.sh, adding bare-metal computing and GPU capabilities. Recently, it announced plans to establish a globally distributed AI inference cloud that spans over 1,100 connected data centers in 31 countries.

Financially, Megaport is supporting its ambitions with substantial investments. The company has secured four contracts for AI infrastructure, collectively valued at approximately AUD 458.9 million, and is investing around AUD 350 million to develop an on-demand GPU pool aimed at supporting enterprise-level AI inference workloads. Earlier this month, the launch of Megaport Storage completed the core infrastructure pillars of compute, networking, and storage, all integrated within a single platform.

VAST's role in this collaboration is essential, as its software layer is designed to simplify managing data across multiple environments. The VAST DataSpace provides a global namespace, ensuring consistent data access without creating additional silos or duplicate datasets.

As Megaport continues to expand its service offerings, the partnership with VAST Data marks a significant shift in how enterprises approach their AI infrastructure needs.
