A new toolkit designed for developers building AI-agent payment applications on the XRP Ledger has officially launched. Ripple's XRPL AI Starter Kit introduces four components that will enable the integration of AI agents into payment processes, coinciding with Mastercard's announcement of Ripple as a partner in its Agent Pay for Machines initiative.

The XRPL AI Starter Kit is being rolled out in phases, with the initial phase now live. Developers can access an XRPL Docs MCP Server, allowing AI frameworks like Claude Code and Cursor to directly query XRP Ledger documentation. Two new skills for Claude—an XRPL Agent Wallet Skill and an XRPL Payment Skill—will facilitate wallet creation, balance inquiries, and payment tracking. Ripple has provided hands-on tutorials that promise to guide users in executing confirmed payments in under 30 minutes.

The integration with the x402 payment standard enhances the kit's capabilities, enabling AI agents to conduct transactions for services like API calls using either XRP or Ripple's USD-backed stablecoin, $RLUSD. This collaboration with Ripple partner t54 signifies a growing acceptance of XRP in various payment ecosystems, especially with Coinbase also backing the x402 protocol.

$RLUSD, which launched in December 2024 and has received regulatory approval from the New York Department of Financial Services, serves as a key component for workflows requiring financial stability. By allowing transactions in both $XRP and $RLUSD, the toolkit positions itself as a versatile solution for agent-to-agent commerce, payroll, and invoice settlements.

The timing of Ripple's launch is significant, as it coincides with Mastercard's unveiling of its Agent Pay for Machines network. This partnership not only provides a stable narrative for the XRPL AI Starter Kit but also integrates Ripple's blockchain settlement layer with Mastercard's established card infrastructure. Consequently, AI agents can utilize the strengths of both companies to facilitate machine-to-machine payments in USD.

Looking ahead, Ripple has indicated that future phases of the starter kit will be shaped by developer feedback, although specific timelines remain undisclosed. This approach aims to refine the toolkit based on actual user experiences and requirements.

Ripple's initiative is part of a larger trend among institutions developing infrastructure for agentic payments. Competitors like Fireblocks and MetaMask have also introduced solutions aimed at enabling AI agents to manage transactions and execute payments on behalf of users. As these platforms evolve, the scope for AI-driven finance will likely continue to expand, presenting new opportunities for innovation in automated commerce.
