Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) has announced a significant investment of over $10 billion aimed at transforming the AI infrastructure in Taiwan. Unveiled on May 21, this initiative is designed to scale advanced packaging manufacturing and create partnerships that will support the deployment of next-generation AI solutions.

The investment focuses on delivering high-performance, energy-efficient technologies that can handle complex computing requirements at scale. AMD's collaboration with ASE and SPIL is a key step in qualifying wafer-based 2.5D bridge interconnect technology, which is set to improve both bandwidth and power efficiency for the upcoming 6th Generation AMD EPYC “Venice” CPUs. This technological advancement is essential as data centers increasingly require efficient solutions to manage their workloads.

AMD and PTI have also introduced the industry's first 2.5D panel-based EFB interconnect, which aims to enhance scalability and production economics. These innovations not only strengthen the technical infrastructure but also promise to improve high-volume data center operations.

The AMD Helios rack-scale platform, powered by the advanced AMD Instinct MI450X GPUs and Venice CPUs, is expected to roll out in the latter half of 2026. This platform is significant for its potential multi-gigawatt deployments, aligning with AMD's ambition to lead in high-performance computing (HPC) and graphics solutions. With the backing of major original design manufacturers (ODMs) and substrate partners, including Sanmina and Wiwynn, AMD is moving towards high-volume manufacturing.
