Galaxy Digital has officially transitioned its Helios campus from a former BTC mining facility to an AI data center, marking a shift in its business strategy. This move is expected to generate over $1 billion in revenue through a long-term lease with AI hyperscaler CoreWeave.

Strategic Shift to AI

The Helios campus, acquired in December 2022 for approximately $65 million, was originally designed for cryptocurrency mining. Galaxy's pivot to AI infrastructure comes amid surging demand for computing power. In 2025, the company secured a lease agreement with CoreWeave, enabling it to expedite the conversion process. This strategy aligns with the trend of digital asset managers diversifying into AI capabilities, as traditional crypto revenues face pressure from market volatility.

Financial Context

Galaxy Digital's first quarter of 2026 showed a net loss of $216 million, primarily due to mark-to-market losses on its digital asset portfolio amidst a broader decline in cryptocurrency prices. Despite this, the company's digital asset segment generated $49 million in adjusted gross profit. The upcoming contributions from the Helios campus are expected to provide high-margin, crypto-uncorrelated revenue, helping to offset losses from the digital asset market.

Infrastructure Advantages

With 1.6 gigawatts of power available, the Helios campus is well-equipped to meet the high demands of AI computing. This existing infrastructure not only facilitates the transition from BTC mining but also positions Galaxy Digital advantageously in a market where new data center construction can be significantly delayed by community opposition. The availability of power connections is becoming increasingly valuable, highlighting the importance of the Helios campus in Galaxy's future plans.

Looking Ahead

As Galaxy Digital continues to develop its AI infrastructure, the decision to convert its Helios campus reflects its commitment to diversifying revenue streams in an evolving market. The anticipated revenue from the CoreWeave lease is expected to begin contributing in the next quarter, potentially stabilizing the company’s financial performance amid ongoing challenges in the crypto market. The successful execution of this plan will be critical for Galaxy as it navigates the complexities of both the AI and cryptocurrency sectors.
