This initiative is part of Meta's ambitious "Prometheus" project, which aims for a 1 gigawatt (GW) capacity when fully operational later this year. The first phase of the Prometheus project took nearly three years to advance, highlighting the difficulties associated with traditional data center construction.

According to CleanView Energy, over 60% of announced data center projects in the U.S. have yet to break ground, with about 7% facing delays. Contributing factors include power grid constraints, complex permitting processes, and supply chain disruptions for essential components like transformers.
